Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I join a Lutheran church?
+
-
We suggest visiting an individual church for a while to get a good feel for the congregation. Then, when you’re ready, talk to the pastor to get started. Unless you’re transferring from another church in the same synod, you’ll typically have to take some classes to learn more about the beliefs of the church. Then, once you accept, you’ll be received into the church formally as a member.
I've got questions. Who should I ask?
+
-
The best place to start is with Pastor Ware. He can answer any questions you have about our church or the Lutheran tradition. Please attempt to get to service early so you can speak to pastor ahead of time.
Do I have to bring a Bible?
+
-
You are not required to bring a Bible, but you are welcome to. We have Bible study classes prior to the Divine Service for which Bibles are available if needed. During Divine Service we like to focus on the hearing of the Word from Christ speaking through his Holy Word.
Can I take Holy Communion?
+
-
In accord with the historic church and with the LCMS, we want to be good stewards of the holy mysteries here at All Saints, thus we practice closed communion. Which means that if you are not a member of another LCMS church, we'd like to get a chance to talk with you and hear your confession. Please speak with Pastor Ware prior to the service. It is our desire that you would be able to commune together with us.
What should I wear?
+
-
Come as you are! At most Lutheran churches, you’ll find that most people dress either “business casual” or in a suit, (for men) or in a blouse and slacks or a dress (for women). There is a range of clothing styles represented in the congregation.
Can I bring my kids?
+
-
Absolutely. Matthew 19:14 commands us to help children receive the gospel message in church. We encourage families to keep their young children in the Divine Service as they begin to learn the habits and patterns of piety from their parents and the congregation. We have many young families, and noise from children is normal and expected during service. We also provide a children’s insert in the bulletin. The nursery is available as well for when parents need to take their children out of the sanctuary.
